General Advice for Wallpaper Choice and Installation

Things to Do Before Installation

Inspect your walls. Most wallpaper is intended for smooth walls and not recommended for installation on textured walls, such as orange peel, knockdown or popcorn walls. However, most textured walls can be wallpapered when appropriate preparation has been completed—this may include scraping or lining the wall—and the correct wallpaper application method.

If you’re wanting to wallpaper over textured surfaces, we recommend reaching out to a professional installer.

Additionally, if you have painted your walls with “scrubbable” paints you might find that using traditional wallpaper paste and paper (like our Non-Pasted Traditional Pebble) is your best option.

Wait at least four weeks after painting or priming. If painting or priming your wall prior to installation, please allow at least four weeks for the paint to fully cure prior to wallpaper installation.

If the paint is not fully cured prior to installation, you may experience bubbling or inadequate wallpaper adhesion to the wall resulting in the paper peeling away from the wall.

Check for these environmental factors. Moisture, excessive dry air and other environmental factors will have an effect on your wallpaper, so keep those in mind when deciding whether or not to use wallpaper.

If you’re unsure about whether wallpaper is right for your desired space, you might want to speak with a professional wallpaper installer.

We recommend trying out test swatches first. Every DoodlePippin wallpaper order is custom printed on-demand with the design, wallpaper type and length you select at the time of purchase.

Therefore, we always recommend purchasing a test swatch and applying it to your wall to ensure the paper and application type you’ve selected are the best choice for your project before purchasing rolls of wallpaper.
